Fairy Tale

The potato variety 'Fairy Tale' is a mid-early table variety developed based on a three-way hybrid using cultivated potato and species Solanum vernei and S. demissum. Plants are of medium height with large light-green leaves and a well-developed root system, ensuring high yield and multi-tuber formation — more than 30 tubers can be obtained from one plant. Tubers have a round-oval, slightly flattened shape, smooth light-yellow skin, and white flesh with small red eyes, around which pink spots sometimes appear. Average tuber weight ranges from 70-130 grams, and starch content varies from 13.5% to 17.1%, making them especially suitable for frying, including deep frying, as well as for making salads, soups, and vegetable mixes.

The variety is characterized by high resistance to viral diseases and good storage capacity — up to 91%, allowing it to maintain quality for a long time. The ripening period is 70-90 days, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The tubers are noted for their very pleasant taste, and when subjected to heat treatment, they retain a snowy-white color, enhancing the visual appeal of finished dishes.

For growing the 'Fairy Tale' variety, it is recommended to use seedling cultivation from seeds, which allows obtaining healthy planting material free from viral and fungal diseases. Seeds are sown in April at a temperature of 18-22ºC, and seedlings are transplanted into open ground at the end of May — beginning of June, following a planting scheme of 70x20-25 cm. Important care includes timely watering, feeding with complex mineral fertilizers, loosening, hilling, and protection against pests such as the Colorado potato beetle. Harvesting occurs at the end of August — beginning of September, yielding high-quality tubers with excellent taste and commercial characteristics.
