SNEGIRY

Snegiry — an early-maturing Russian potato variety for table use, developed through distant hybridization and selection by specialists at the Leningrad Research Institute of Agriculture and the N.I. Vavilov Institute of General Genetics. This variety is intended for cultivation on garden plots, homesteads, and small farms across various regions of Russia. The plant is of medium height, intermediate type, with an upright or semi-upright main stem and large leaves with very slight or absent undulations along the edges. Flowers are red-purple, with medium-sized corollas.

The tubers of the Snegiry variety have an oval-round shape, with smooth or moderately smooth red skin and white flesh. The weight of a single tuber ranges from 59 to 90 grams, with small or very small eyes. The starch content in the tubers is 15.7–16.0%, slightly higher than standard levels. The potatoes are moderately soft when boiled, with good to excellent flavor. Harvest quality ranges from 65 to 85%, and storability reaches 95%, ensuring long-term storage without loss of quality.

The variety is distinguished by high yield — on average, 180 to 271 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 354 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding standards compared to other varieties. The harvest forms uniformly, with the possibility of early harvesting: by day 45 after emergence, yield reaches 130 centners per hectare, and by day 55 — 210 centners per hectare. The variety is resistant to potato blight and macrosporiosis, as well as viral diseases, but is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and phytophthora in moderate degrees. Thanks to these characteristics, Snegiry is a reliable and productive choice for various growing conditions.
