Description
Aiva of the 'Academic' variety is a winter-hardy and high-yielding variety developed in Ukraine and adapted for cultivation in various regions of the country, including northern areas. The tree is medium-sized with a compact, moderately dense crown, reaching a height of 3-3.5 meters. It is characterized by high vitality, excellent immunity, and cold tolerance due to its late flowering, which protects the flowers from spring frosts.
The fruits of this variety are large, weighing 250 to 300 grams, with an apple-shaped or slightly asymmetrical form, smooth or slightly warty surface near the calyx. The skin is thin, matte-yellow with a slight blushing, without hairs. The flesh is dense, creamy or pale-creamy in color, juicy with a characteristic tart-sweet and slightly bitter taste. The fruits darken quickly upon exposure to air after cutting, which should be taken into account when using them.
The ripening period falls at the end of September to mid-October. The yield is stable and high — from 45 to 50 kilograms per mature tree. 'Academic' aiva is distinguished by record-high vitamin C content and good storage and transportability, making it attractive for both personal consumption and commercial cultivation.
