Kubanskaya

This variety was selected by the Crimea Experimental and Selection Station of VIR from local quince forms. It was tested in the Krasnodar region, grows in the Stavropol region, Ukraine, Moldova, and republics of the North Caucasus.

The tree is medium-sized, with a flat, rounded, spreading crown that is slightly drooping and sparse, with moderate leafiness. The angle of departure of the main branches is about 45°, the branches are curved, of medium thickness and thin, dark brown; the trunk is medium thickness, dark brown, with peeling bark.

Shoots are medium thickness, straight, greenish-brown, with slight pubescence; many small, reddish-brown stipules; internodes are short. Buds are light green, pressed, medium-sized. Leaves are broadly egg-shaped, medium-sized, with a slightly pointed tip, dark green. Pubescence on the underside of the leaf is dense, woolly. Leaf apex is pointed, short, moderately tapering; leaf base is rounded, slightly elongated towards the petiole, leaf margin is smooth; petiole is short, thin, with strong anthocyanin coloration; stipules are large, wedge-shaped.

Flowers are solitary, large, pale pink; pedicels are thin, with slight pubescence. Petals are large, rounded-oval; stamens 20-30, filaments pink; anthers yellow, large; pistils located slightly below the stamens.

Fruits are medium-sized, weighing 170-250 g, uniform, round-cylindrical in shape, with weakly ribbed and slightly warty surface, strong gray woolly pubescence that disappears upon ripening. Main color is orange-green. Calyx is half-open, calyx lobes are medium. Receptacle is medium width and depth, finely wrinkled, funnel narrow, medium depth, clean. Heart is medium-sized, egg-shaped, seed chambers are closed, sickle-shaped, with finely wrinkled walls. Seeds are medium-sized, flat, brown, with dark rim.

Flesh is creamy, with stone-like cells near the seed chamber, juicy, medium density, sweet, with slight acidity. Fruits contain 13.1% dry soluble solids, 7.6% sugars, 0.95% titratable acids, 23.5 mg/100g ascorbic acid, 129.4 mg/100g raw mass of P-active catechins.

Harvesting maturity occurs in the first or second decade of October; fruits are stored until December. Fruit transportability is high. This is a technical variety, yielding high-quality juices (4.5 points) during processing.

Trees begin fruiting in 4-5 years after planting as one-year-old saplings. Yield is medium, 70-90 centners per hectare. Winter and drought resistance are medium.

Fruits are moderately resistant to superficial spotting.

Advantages of the variety: early fruiting, high-quality processed products.

Disadvantages of the variety: low winter and drought resistance of the tree.
