VIRASAN

The VIRASAN rice variety is a medium-early and quick-maturing variety with a vegetative period of about 110-115 days. It was bred by crossing the early-maturing VIRAZH variety with the medium-late Kuban 3 variety, which provided it with good adaptation to the climate and soils of the southern regions of Russia, including the Lower Volga region and the Kalmykia Republic. The plants are dwarf, about 76 cm high, with short or medium-length stems and compact panicles about 14 cm long, containing 110 to 120 oval grains. The grain is short, medium-length, round or semi-round, with a 1000-grain mass of 29-31 grams.

VIRASAN is characterized by high resistance to lodging and shattering, as well as to pyricularia, thanks to the presence of resistance genes. In addition, the variety tolerates low temperatures well, which makes it a reliable choice for growing in the southern regions. The glaucousness of the penultimate leaf blade of this variety is absent or very weak, and the anthocyanin coloration of the ears does not appear, which is a characteristic feature of the variety.

The VIRASAN variety yield is stable and high: the average yield reaches 6.66 tons per hectare, and in some trials the maximum indicators reached 7.05 tons per hectare and above, which is 9 centners per hectare higher than the standard variety Boyarin. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptation, the variety is recommended for cultivation in the Lower Volga region, the Kalmykia Republic, and the southern zone of the Rostov region, ensuring a reliable and high-quality rice crop.
