Description
AMGINSKY is a variety of Siberian brome (Elymus sibiricus L.), developed and patented by the M.G. Safronov Yakut Research Institute of Agriculture. The plant is characterized by an erect bushy form, 110–120 cm in height, with a tender stem without pubescence and nodes with anthocyanin coloring. Leaves are wide, flat, without a waxy coating, with a blunt and short ligule. The root system is tufted and penetrates deep into the soil (120–150 cm), providing drought resistance.
The variety is distinguished by high hay yield – 38.3 c/ha, as well as good seed productivity – 1.2 c/ha. The vegetative period is from 71 to 82 days when harvested for seeds and reaches 94–109 days in a wider range of conditions. AMGINSKY grows well on loam, loamy sand, and sandy soils with pH 6.5–7.5, as well as on floodplain meadows, dry river beds, and mountain slopes.
This variety is widely used in agronomy as a hay and silage crop. Hay is of high quality, allowing up to three cuttings per summer. In combination with alfalfa and clover, hay yield can reach 30–40 c/ha. AMGINSKY is also used as lawn grass in Yakutia, thanks to its ecological plasticity and resistance to climatic conditions.
