Description
Sorghum Lan 59 — an early-maturing variety recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine. This variety was developed by the Institute of Grain Husbandry of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and entered the State Register in 2007. Lan 59 is characterized by plant height of up to 130–134 cm and a vegetation period of 110–120 days, meeting the requirements of early-maturing varieties.
The grain of variety Lan 59 has an oval shape and an orange color with a white tint. Protein content in the grain ranges from 11.2% to 14.4%, starch content from 71.3% to 77.0%, and lysine content around 3.2%. The 1000-grain weight varies within 35–38 grams. The yield of this variety reaches 3.6–3.8 tons per hectare in the steppe zone and 5.4–5.7 tons per hectare in the forest-steppe zone, confirmed by average performance over years of testing.
Variety Lan 59 exhibits high resistance to lodging, shattering, drought, and disease, ensuring stable yields under various climatic conditions. The primary use of this variety is for fodder grain production, making it popular for feeding livestock.
