Description
The Sorghum variety Samaran 6 is the result of the work of the Institute of Steppe Zone Agriculture of the NAAN of Ukraine and has been registered in the State Register since 2006. It is specially recommended for cultivation in the steppe zone, where climatic conditions require drought and pest resistance.
The grain of the variety is characterized by a light pink color with a white vitreous endosperm, with a 1000-seed weight of 21 to 26 g. Plant height is low – 110–120 cm, they are straight, do not sway, and are resistant to shattering. The internal grain composition includes 11% protein (of which lysine is 3.2%), 72.3% starch, and 4.2% fat, making it suitable for the production of flour, cereals, and other food products.
The biological characteristics of the variety include a vegetation period from 105 to 120 days, high drought resistance, and resistance to flying and hard chaff (damage level 5.8% and 3.7% respectively). Yield reaches 3.5–4.8 t/ha. For cultivation, generally accepted agronomic methods for grain sorghum are used: plants respond well to irrigation and high agro-background, and sowing is considered reliable due to stable seed production.
Thus, Samaran 6 combines high productivity, resistance to unfavorable conditions, and high-quality grain composition, making it an attractive choice for farmers in steppe regions seeking a reliable crop with good food properties.
