Description
Sorghum bicolor TANDem® is a medium-maturing sorghum variety intended for sugar production. This variety is characterized by high sugar content and good disease resistance, making it in demand in the agricultural industry for the production of sugar nectar. The plants are tall to very tall, with a symmetrical panicle of medium length and loose medium density at maturity. The grain is round in shape on the back and elliptical in profile, with the endosperm being three-quarters starchy, which contributes to high-quality raw material for sugar production.
The growing season of the TANDem variety is from 109 to 117 days, allowing it to be grown in various climatic conditions, including the Central Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, and Ural regions. The average yield of green mass in the Central Black Earth region reaches 117.4 centners per hectare, with a maximum recorded yield of 254.2 centners per hectare. The dry matter content in the plants is about 31.1%, which is a good indicator for sugar sorghum.
The TANDem variety has a number of morphological features, such as weak to medium anthocyanin coloration of the coleoptile, medium sheath coloration of the first leaf, and yellow coloration of the flag leaf vein. The glumes turn black at maturity, while the stigmas have absent or very weak anthocyanin coloration. These characteristics contribute to the adaptation of the variety to various growing conditions and ensure yield stability.
