VOLZHSCOYE 44 — a mid-early sorghum grain variety (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), recommended for cultivation in the Lower Volga region and Saratov region. The plant is of medium height, reaching 135-145 cm, with a symmetrical, upright, and long panicle. Seedlings are characterized by weak anthocyanin pigmentation, while the grain has an elliptical shape, light brown color, and a 1000-grain weight ranging from 22.6 to 31.0 g. The variety is distinguished by drought and lodging resistance at the level of standards, ensuring crop stability under complex climatic conditions.

VOLZHSCOYE 44 is intended for grain-fodder, grain, and starch production, making it universal for feed, food, and technical use. The period from germination to full grain maturity is 100-110 days. Grain yield varies from 4.7 to 6.0 t/ha, while green mass yield is from 22.2 to 24.1 t/ha. Protein content in the grain reaches 11-12%, and starch content is 73-75%, confirming the high quality of raw materials for various industries.

For sowing, a wide-row method with a row spacing of 70 cm and plant density of 80-150 thousand/ha is recommended. The weight rate of seeds for sowing is 2.9-5.5 kg/ha of germinating seeds. The maximum grain yield was recorded at the level of 30.4 c/ha in the Republic of Kalmykia.
