VOLZHSKOYE 4

Sorghum grain VOLZHSKOYE 4® is a mid-early sorghum variety developed for use as a feed crop. This variety is distinguished by high yield and good adaptation to various climatic conditions, making it in demand in livestock farming as a source of protein and energy for cattle. The plant is of medium height with green leaves and weak anthocyanin pigmentation of seedlings, indicating its resistance and good viability.

The panicle of VOLZHSKOYE 4 is symmetrical, erect, and long, becoming loose at maturity, while the panicle neck is significantly long. The spikelets are egg-shaped with medium-length glumes of light yellow color. The grain is elliptical, light brown, with an endosperm that is three-quarters starchy and partially semi-glassy. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 22.6 to 31.0 grams, which corresponds to the average standard for this type of sorghum.

The variety demonstrates resistance to lodging and drought, as well as good frost resistance. Under field conditions, VOLZHSKOYE 4 is weakly affected by bacterial leaf spot, which increases its reliability and yield stability. The average grain yield in recommended regions is about 8.4 centners per hectare, while maximum indicators reach 30.4 centners per hectare. The variety is recommended for growing in Volgograd Oblast, Kalmykia, and Saratov Oblast.
