The pneumatic precision seed drill (SPCH) is a specialized unit designed for the precise planting of row crops: corn, sunflowers, sugar beets, soybeans, and sorghum. The primary purpose of this equipment is to ensure a strictly defined seeding depth and maintain precise intervals between seeds in the row, which is critical for creating a uniform stand. The SPCH design is based on the principle of vacuum metering, where seeds are suctioned to the holes of the metering disc by the vacuum created by a fan.

Operating Principle of the Metering Unit

The heart of the machine is the pneumatic metering unit, which eliminates mechanical damage to the seeds. The vacuum system allows for working with various seed fractions without the need for frequent readjustment. Because there is no contact with friction parts during the seed delivery process, the unit ensures high germination rates even when using expensive hybrid seed material. The SPCH control system is integrated with the tractor’s hydraulic system, which provides quick lifting and lowering of sections when turning at the field's headlands. Marker devices installed on the sides of the frame allow the driver to maintain perfect overlap between rows, eliminating errors when navigating adjacent passes. Ground pressure regulation is performed using spring mechanisms on each section, allowing for stable seeding depth even in partially compacted soil.

Fertilizer Application and Monitoring

Most SPCH modifications are equipped with a system for the simultaneous application of granulated mineral fertilizers. The fertilizer openers are positioned to the side of the row, preventing direct contact between chemicals and seeds, which avoids chemical burns. Modern configurations are supplemented with seed control systems (monitors) that track skips and doubles in real-time, displaying data on the screen in the tractor cab.

Maintenance and Reliability

The reliability of the SPCH is due to the simplicity of the metering unit drive kinematics, which operates via a chain and sprocket system with the ability to change gear ratios. This allows for quick adjustment of the seeding rate without the use of complex tools. Daily maintenance is limited to lubricating friction points and cleaning vacuum chambers of dust and plant residues, ensuring a long service life for components even under intensive use.
