Description
PRIALEYSKAYA – a Sudan grass variety (Sorghum xdrummondii), a mid-maturing type with a vegetation period of up to 120 days. The plant reaches a height of up to 250 cm and has a deeply penetrating root system, ensuring high drought resistance and adaptability to weather conditions. Due to rapid recovery after mowing, it is possible to obtain two to four cuttings per season, with the first cutting made 65‑70 days after sowing.
The variety is characterized by high protein content (up to 11% in green mass) and low levels of non-nitrogenous extractive substances. The fodder mass contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, carotene, and trace elements Fe, Mg, Zn, Mn, K, making it a valuable source of nutrients for livestock, including pigs. Sudan grass hay takes a leading position among cereals in terms of protein content; the energy value of the hay is comparable to that of young corn silage.
The yield of average green mass reaches 40 t/ha, while hay yield ranges from 5 to 9 t/ha. For planting, soil warming to 9‑11 °C is recommended, with manual sowing at a density of 2 kg per 100 m² (or 20‑25 kg/ha under a seeder). With proper management, the cultivated material can be used as green mass, hay, silage, or ensilage, providing quality feed for animals and high farm productivity.
