Description
The fruits of tomato Plushkin are smooth, flat-round, dense, and very meaty, weighing 125-150 g. Their color is dark red when fully ripe, while unripe fruits have a light green hue. The flesh has an excellent taste, tenderness, and juiciness, with elevated sugar and vitamin content. Tomatoes are suitable for both fresh consumption and pickling. Due to their high density and excellent transportability, the fruits withstand transportation well and can be stored for extended periods.
For growing tomato Plushkin, use light, nutrient-rich soils. Good predecessors include cucumbers, cabbage, legumes, onions, and carrots. Seeds are sown for seedlings at the end of March to early April at a depth of 2-3 cm, after preliminary treatment in a potassium permanganate solution. Seedlings are pricked out at the 1-2 true leaf stage and fertilized 2-3 times with a complex fertilizer. Seven to ten days before transplanting, seedlings are hardened off. Transplant seedlings into open ground at 55-70 days old, when the risk of frost has passed, or slightly earlier under plastic covers. Plants require regular watering with warm water and 2-3 mineral fertilizer applications. Low-growing Plushkin tomatoes generally do not require pinching or staking, simplifying care.
