Description
SIRS 57 is a winter triticale variety characterized by a medium-late maturity period and intended for grain-forage use. The plants of this variety are short, with a height ranging from 75 to 109 cm, providing lodging resistance at the level of standards. Heading occurs late, and the vegetation period ranges from 321 to 348 days. The grain is of medium size, semi-elongated, gray-yellow in color, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 31.9 to 38.5 g. The average yield in the region is about 30.7 c/ha, while the maximum yield over the test years reached 48.2 c/ha.
The SIRS 57 variety possesses good winter hardiness, corresponding to standards, and medium drought resistance. Visually, the plant has a strong waxy coating on the flag leaf sheath, average stem neck pubescence, and the spike is slightly colored, of medium length, dense, and semi-barbed with very short awns at the end. The outer surface of the lower glume is glabrous, with a tooth of medium length. The crude protein content in the grain varies from 23.6 to 32.3 %, which is an important quality indicator.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in regions of Western and Eastern Siberia, including the Novosibirsk region. Under field conditions, SIRS 57 shows medium susceptibility to brown rust and severe infection by snow mold and septoria, which requires attention during crop protection. The variety's pedigree includes wheat and rye hybridization followed by individual selection, ensuring its adaptation to the specific climatic conditions of the region and stable yields.
