Description
Grecian walnut variety Chernivetsky 2 is a large-fruited variety with high commercial qualities and stable yield. Medium-sized tree with a large, round, lush, and spreading crown. Begins fruiting in the fourth year after planting, reaching a yield of about 7.8 kg per tree by the seventh to eighth year. Fruits form on the tips of last year’s growth, and harvest maturity occurs in the second to third decade of September.
Fruits of the Chernivetsky 2 variety have an elongated-elliptical shape and weigh between 14.7 to 18 grams. The shell is thin, 1.0–1.3 mm thick, with a smooth surface and a brown-beige tint, easily splits open, facilitating kernel extraction. The kernel constitutes approximately 50.1–50.3% of the fruit’s total mass, has a creamy color and sweet taste. Chemically, the kernel contains about 69.68% fats, 26.53% proteins, and 7.91% carbohydrates.
The variety exhibits high resistance to diseases and pests, reducing the need for intensive plant protection. Due to its qualities, Chernivetsky 2 walnuts are widely used not only in culinary applications but also in the pharmaceutical industry. The high content of fats and proteins makes this variety especially valuable for the food industry and healthy nutrition.
