Watermelon Baronessa F1 — an early mid-season hybrid of the Sugar Baby type, developed by breeders of the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. The vegetative period is approximately 65-73 days from transplanting seedlings to harvest. Plants are strong, compact, 30-40 cm tall, with a well-developed root system and dense dark green foliage that reliably protects fruits from sunburn and provides long-term protection. Due to its strong root system, the watermelon receives sufficient nutrients, which contributes to the formation of high-quality, flavorful fruits. Regular watering and fertilization are recommended to enhance flavor and commercial qualities. Fruits of Baronessa F1 are round-oval, symmetrical, with smooth dark green rind covered with a slight waxy coating. The rind is of medium thickness — about 13-14 mm, dense, which ensures good field and transport storage, preventing cracking and overripening. Average fruit weight varies from 8 to 12 kg. Flesh is bright red, juicy, with uniform granular texture and a small number of nearly invisible seeds. Taste is characterized by high sugar content — sugar content reaches 11-12%, flesh is very sweet, aromatic, and crunchy, making the watermelon especially appealing for fresh consumption. Hybrid Baronessa F1 has high resistance to major diseases of melon crops, such as fusarium wilt and anthracnose, and demonstrates good cold tolerance. These qualities, combined with rapid and even growth and good flower set, make this watermelon a reliable and productive choice for open-field cultivation. Due to its commercial and flavor characteristics, as well as resistance to adverse conditions, Baronessa F1 is popular among farmers and melon enthusiasts.
