Charleston Gray Deluxe

Charleston Gray Deluxe watermelon is a medium-early variety with a vegetation period of 70 to 85 days, allowing harvest in late August. The plant is robust, with long stems and dense foliage, preferring well-lit, warmed areas without strong drafts and sandy soils. The variety is characterized by high yield and resistance to fusarium and anthracnose, but requires regular treatment against aphids and spider mites. To improve taste quality, periodic root watering and application of organic and mineral fertilizers are recommended.

The fruits of Charleston Gray watermelon are elongated-cylindrical in shape, resembling large zucchini, weighing from 12 to 18 kg and measuring up to 40-50 cm in length and 30-35 cm in diameter. The skin is light green with dark green netting or without distinct stripes, which helps protect the fruit from sunburn. The thick, hard rind, up to 20 mm thick, ensures excellent transportability and storage, keeping the fruit fresh and flavorful for 2-3 months. The flesh is bright pink or deep red, dense, crisp, juicy, and sweet with a sugar content of 10-11%, possessing a pronounced aroma and flavor.

Charleston Gray Deluxe forms 1-2 large fruits per plant, allowing up to 100 tons per hectare with proper watering and care. Fruits are harvested 4-5 days before full ripening to preserve quality and extend storage life. Due to its characteristics, the variety is ideal for main-season cultivation and fresh market sales, providing a stable, high-quality yield with good transportability.
