The «Darunok» watermelon is a product of breeding efforts by the IPOiB UAAS, representing a classic early-ripening variety adapted to the climatic conditions of Ukraine. The key feature of this germplasm is its compressed vegetation period: from emergence to technical maturity, it takes 60–70 days. This growth dynamic allows producers to efficiently capitalize on the short period of high temperatures to bring early marketable produce to the market.

Morphological features and field characteristics

• Ripening cycle: Ultra-early segment (60–70 days), which minimizes the risk of exposure to the peak pressure of diseases and pests.
• Vine development: A medium-vining plant that requires precise density management to optimize photosynthetic activity and ensure sunlight penetration to the fruits.
• Fruit technology: Round fruits possess significant rind durability, a critical factor for transportation over medium and long distances. Transportability is a core strength of this variety.

Practical application and agronomic potential

The varietal strength of «Darunok» lies in its sugar accumulation stability, provided that irrigation protocols are strictly followed. In intensive farming systems, the variety responds well to fertilization, yet it requires balanced nutrition to maintain ripening rates. Utilizing this variety is highly recommended for operations targeting the early produce market. An optimal planting scheme allows for even distribution of the fruit load on the vine, preventing excessive fruit set and positively impacting individual fruit weight.
