These beetles are recognized in agricultural entomology for their distinct clicking mechanism, used to flip themselves upright. While the adults are primarily surface dwellers, their larvae are notorious soil pests widely referred to as wireworms.

The pest poses a significant threat to a wide range of agricultural crops. The primary damage is inflicted by the larvae residing in the soil profile. They feed extensively on the roots and underground stems of cereals, corn, sunflowers, and various root vegetables.
