Spruce gall adelgid

Taxonomically, this species is closely related to aphids. Unlike many other insects, its life cycle is intricately tied to the growth stages of the spruce tree. The adelgid exploits the host's physiological responses to stimulate the development of abnormal tissue growths known as galls, which provide a protected environment for the larvae.
