Adoretus cribrosus is a species of beetle belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Scarabaeidae. As a nocturnal pest, it poses a significant threat to various agricultural crops and ornamental plants, primarily known for its ability to cause extensive defoliation by feeding on foliage during the night.

This pest affects a wide range of host plants, including fruit trees, grapevines, citrus, and various shrub species. In regions where it is abundant, the feeding pressure from adult beetles can severely impact plant health, stunt growth, and lead to reduced harvest quality, making it a target for integrated pest management programs.

The biology of Adoretus cribrosus is characterized by a lifecycle that involves both soil-dwelling and leaf-feeding stages. The larvae develop within the soil, consuming organic matter and roots, while the adults are active primarily at night. During the day, the adults remain hidden in soil crevices or under debris, emerging only after sunset to feed on leaves.
