Systematic position: The Polynesian mosquito (Aedes polynesiensis) is a member of the Culicidae family within the order Diptera. While it is not a direct plant pest that feeds on crops, it is a significant nuisance and health threat within tropical agro-ecosystems across the South Pacific islands.

Biology and life cycle: The species undergoes complete metamorphosis consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Females lay eggs in small containers of water or moist substrates. Larvae are aquatic, feeding on microorganisms in stagnant water. In warm, humid climates, the life cycle is rapid, often completing within 7 to 10 days, allowing for multiple generations throughout the year.

Their presence disrupts daily agricultural activities and creates an environment of discomfort for laborers. More importantly, they act as vectors for serious diseases, including lymphatic filariasis, which requires rigorous sanitation and monitoring to prevent health crises on agricultural sites.
