Like other members of this family, it is known for its remarkable mimicry of wasps and hornets, which helps it avoid predation. The species is considered a specialized wood-boring pest that can significantly impact the health of susceptible host plants.

The larvae of this moth primarily target the bark and inner wood of woody plants. By boring into the cambium and xylem layers, the larvae disrupt the plant's vascular system.
