The St. John's wort borer (Agrilus hyperici) is a beetle species belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Buprestidae. The primary host plant is St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum). Biology and life cycle
The insect undergoes complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults are active during the summer months, feeding on leaves. Females deposit eggs on the stems of the host plant. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the stem, where they tunnel through the pith throughout their development cycle before pupating inside the stem.
