Systematic position: The poplar buprestid beetle (Agrilus liragus) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Buprestidae. It is recognized as a significant wood-boring insect that causes substantial damage to deciduous trees.

Host plants: The beetle primarily attacks trees belonging to the Populus genus, including trembling aspen and various poplar hybrids. It exhibits a strong preference for trees that are already suffering from environmental stress, such as drought or mechanical injury.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Agrilus liragus involves the development of larvae within the cambium layer. Adult beetles emerge during the summer months to feed on leaves. Subsequently, females lay eggs in the crevices of the bark, where the larvae hatch and immediately begin excavating galleries underneath the bark.
