Unlike common greenhouse whiteflies, this species is noted for the dark pigmentation of its larval and pupal stages, making it a distinct and serious threat to agricultural stability in affected regions.
The primary host plants for this pest include various citrus species such as lemon, orange, and grapefruit trees. In some cases, it can also infest ornamental plants and other fruit-bearing species, which necessitates strict quarantine measures and careful monitoring in nurseries and commercial plantations.
The biological cycle consists of an egg stage, three larval instars, a pupal stage, and the adult phase. Eggs are typically laid in distinctive spiral patterns on the undersides of leaves.
