Description
The Maple whitefly (genus Aleurochiton) belongs to the family Aleyrodidae, order Hemiptera. These small pests specialize primarily on woody species, causing the weakening of foliage and general suppression of the plant’s vitality.
The primary hosts for this pest are various species of maple (Acer). In cases of heavy infestation, the whitefly can significantly reduce the ornamental value of trees in parks, urban green spaces, and nurseries, which makes it a priority subject for plant health professionals.
The biology of Aleurochiton is characterized by a complex life cycle. The pest undergoes the stages of egg, larva (including a distinctive immobile "puparium" stage), nymph, and adult.
