Aleuroclava similis belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aleyrodidae. This species is a significant plant pest found in many regions globally, feeding on the sap of host plants. Its taxonomic classification defines its unique morphology, characterized by small sucking insects that develop a waxy coating during the pupal stage.

The host range of this pest is extensive, including various ornamental plants, citrus, and several types of fruit and vegetable crops. Due to its polyphagous nature, the pest can rapidly infest new areas, both in greenhouse environments and open fields, establishing resilient populations on a wide variety of botanical species.

The lifecycle consists of egg, four larval stages, and adult (imago). High temperatures and elevated humidity provide optimal conditions for rapid reproduction. The pest completes multiple generations per year, with puparia providing a layer of protection against environmental stressors and some contact insecticides.

Damage symptoms include the extraction of plant sap from the underside of leaves, causing chlorosis, leaf deformation, and premature leaf drop. In addition to direct feeding damage, Aleuroclava similis secretes honeydew, which promotes the growth of sooty mold, ultimately inhibiting photosynthesis and reducing the aesthetic and market value of the crop.
