The cacao whitefly (Aleurotrachelus cacaorum) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Aleyrodidae. This insect is recognized as a specialized pest that impacts the productivity of cacao plantations, particularly in tropical regions where environmental conditions support its continuous development.

The primary host for this species is the cacao tree (Theobroma cacao). The whiteflies typically aggregate on the abaxial side of the leaves, where they feed on phloem sap. This feeding habit directly affects the physiological processes of the host plant, potentially leading to significant yield losses if not managed appropriately.

The life cycle of Aleurotrachelus cacaorum comprises egg, larval instars, puparium, and adult stages. The larvae are sedentary, meaning they spend the majority of their development attached to the leaf surface. Damage caused by this pest includes chlorosis, leaf deformation, and premature leaf senescence.
