The host range of Amyotea malabarica is focused mainly on rice plants, though it can survive on various grasses in the vicinity of agricultural fields. Both nymphs and adults possess piercing-sucking mouthparts. They feed on the sap of the plant, focusing their attacks on the stems and the developing panicles, which directly impacts the grain filling process.

The life cycle of this stink bug includes the egg stage, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage. Eggs are typically laid in masses on host foliage. The development rate is highly sensitive to environmental factors, particularly temperature and humidity.
