These mosquitoes thrive in the vicinity of irrigation systems, rice paddies, and shaded areas near cultivated fields. Their affinity for clean, slow-moving water makes agricultural infrastructure, such as drainage ditches and irrigation reservoirs, ideal breeding grounds. The concentration of the species in these areas turns productive farmlands into potential zones of high entomological risk.
The life cycle encompasses four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Females deposit eggs on the water surface, which develop into larvae that thrive in oxygenated water containing aquatic vegetation. Key strategies include routine maintenance of irrigation canals to prevent water stagnation, vegetation management to reduce shade, and the introduction of larvivorous fish into water bodies.
