The pest poses a threat to several crops, including maize, sugarcane, and various tree seedlings. While their primary diet consists of decaying organic matter, high population densities or localized environmental stress may lead these termites to feed on the living root systems and underground stems of healthy plants, resulting in severe crop vigor reduction.

The biology of Anoplotermes pacificus is characterized by a subterranean lifestyle, as they do not construct conspicuous above-ground mounds. Their colony structure is highly organized, consisting of specialized castes such as workers, soldiers, and reproductives, which cooperate to maintain extensive galleries within the soil profile, ensuring the colony's survival and expansion.
