Anstenoptilia marmarodactyla, commonly known as the marbled plume moth, is a member of the Pterophoridae family within the order Lepidoptera. This moth is a specialized pest that primarily targets plants in the Lamiaceae family, particularly those within the Salvia genus, posing a threat to both ornamental gardens and aromatic herb production.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult. The moths typically lay their eggs on the foliage or developing buds of the host plant. The larvae are the primary damaging stage, often living endophytically within the stems or developing flowers, making them difficult to detect until significant damage has already occurred.

The damage caused by larvae includes the destruction of buds, stunting of shoot growth, and skeletonization of leaves. Because the larvae often feed internally, they disrupt the plant's vascular system, leading to wilted tips, distorted foliage, and a failure to produce healthy flowers. In severe cases, the application of systemic insecticides is necessary to target larvae protected inside plant tissues.
