Although these creatures are crustaceans, they have successfully adapted to terrestrial environments. Biology and life cycle. These woodlice are nocturnal, spending the daylight hours in cool, damp hiding spots such as under stones, leaf litter, or within soil crevices. Armadillidium speyeri requires high humidity to survive. Their life cycle includes a brood pouch stage, where females protect their developing young, allowing the population to increase rapidly in stable environments like glasshouses.
