Augasma is a genus of moths belonging to the family Coleophoridae, within the order Lepidoptera. As highly specialized insects, they have evolved a tight ecological relationship with their host plants. Understanding the systematic position and behavior of these moths is crucial for identifying their role in local agricultural and wild ecosystems.

These pests primarily target plants within the Asteraceae family. They are most commonly associated with various species of mugwort or wormwood (Artemisia). While they are often considered minor pests in traditional agriculture, their presence in regions bordering cultivated fields can lead to localized damage, particularly if the host plant density is high.

The biology of Augasma is characterized by the unique development of larvae that build protective cases (bags). During their lifecycle, these larvae feed on plant tissues while remaining protected inside their mobile cases. The primary damage caused by Augasma involves leaf mining and stem feeding. Larvae consume the inner parenchyma of the leaves, creating distinct patterns or "mines" that weaken the plant structure. Increased infestation levels result in physiological stress, reduced photosynthesis, chlorosis, and, in severe cases, the premature death of the affected plant foliage.

Management and control strategies for Augasma include:

• Cultural control by managing weed reservoirs, specifically removing wild Artemisia species near agricultural plots.
