These insects are classified as lac insects, known for producing a resinous secretion as part of their biological cycle. While some members of this family are utilized commercially, the species within this genus are often identified as pests that can compromise the structural integrity and health of various host plants.

This pest typically targets woody plants, shrubs, and trees in tropical and subtropical environments. By feeding on the phloem sap of young stems and branches, the insects deprive the plant of essential nutrients.
