Systematic position. Banasa dimidiata belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Pentatomidae, commonly known as stink bugs or shield bugs. This species is recognized in agricultural entomology as a pest capable of impacting the physiological processes of various cultivated plants due to its piercing-sucking feeding habits.

Affected crops. The pest is polyphagous, meaning it feeds on a diverse range of host plants. It is particularly problematic in orchards and berry plantations, attacking apple trees, pear trees, and various fruit-bearing shrubs. Its ability to switch between different hosts allows it to maintain populations throughout the growing season in various environments.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Banasa dimidiata consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. Overwintering occurs as adults in protected microhabitats such as leaf litter, bark crevices, or under organic debris. In the spring, they migrate to host plants to feed and lay clusters of eggs on the undersides of leaves or stems, initiating a new generation of nymphs that progress through several molts.

Damage patterns and economic impact. Both adults and nymphs cause damage by extracting plant sap. This process often leaves necrotic spots, causing fruit distortion, pitting, and general tissue damage. The primary economic impact is the reduction in marketable yield and fruit quality, as affected fruits become unappealing to consumers and may be more susceptible to secondary rot or fungal pathogens.

Protection measures. Effective management requires an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy. Key methods include:
