Bathycoelia is a genus of insects belonging to the Pentatomidae family, commonly known as shield bugs or stink bugs. These insects are recognized as significant agricultural pests in various parts of the world, capable of causing substantial economic damage to a wide range of horticultural and field crops by extracting plant sap.

Taxonomically, the genus is classified under the order Hemiptera, suborder Heteroptera. Their morphological features, such as the shield-shaped body and specialized piercing-sucking mouthparts, make them highly efficient at exploiting the vascular systems of host plants during their vegetative and reproductive stages.

The biology of Bathycoelia involves a hemimetabolous development cycle, consisting of egg, nymphal stages, and adult stages. Nymphs undergo several molts, increasing in size and feeding capacity at each stage. Damage caused by Bathycoelia is characterized by localized tissue necrosis and physiological disruption. By injecting digestive enzymes into the plant tissue, these pests can cause seed abortion, fruit malformation, and premature shedding of reproductive structures, which significantly reduces both the yield quantity and quality.
