Description
Bathycoelia thalassina is a significant agricultural pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Pentatomidae. It is widely recognized as a primary threat to cocoa (Theobroma cacao) cultivation, particularly in West African countries where it causes substantial economic losses.
The host range of this insect is primarily focused on cocoa, but it can also be found on various other tropical crops. It thrives in humid conditions, which are typical for cocoa plantations, allowing the population to remain active and reproduce continuously throughout the year.
