Biology and life cycle: The life cycle involves mated queens overwintering in soil or debris, emerging in early spring to initiate new colonies. Worker bees are produced to support the colony's growth and resource collection. As the colony develops, it reaches peak activity in mid-summer before entering the final reproductive phase, where new queens and males are produced to sustain the population for the following year.

Nature of damage: The primary issue arises from «nectar robbing». When the floral morphology of a crop makes the nectar inaccessible to the bee's tongue, the bumblebee may use its mandibles to pierce the base of the corolla or calyx. This activity does not facilitate pollination but instead damages the reproductive apparatus of the flower, leading to tissue injury.

Pest significance: The economic impact is linked to reduced fruit set and lower yields. By damaging the flower structure, the insect prevents normal fertilization processes. Furthermore, these punctures create entry points for opportunistic pathogens or secondary infections, which can compromise the overall health of the floral parts and impact the marketability of the produce.

Protection measures: Because these insects are critical for the ecosystem, chemical eradication is never recommended. Instead, agronomists should implement cultural controls:
