Description
Systematic position. The pale bean beetle (Bruchidius gilvus) belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Bruchidae. This beetle is recognized as a specialized pest that poses a significant threat to various legume species, impacting both agricultural production and natural seed stocks.
Host plants and damage. The pest primarily targets members of the Fabaceae family, including various Astragalus species. Larvae develop inside the seeds, consuming the internal content, which leads to the complete destruction of the seed embryo and results in significant losses in crop yield and quality.
