Systematic position. Bruchidius indigoferae is a beetle species belonging to the Coleoptera order and the Bruchidae family. It is recognized as a significant pest specializing in the seeds of various Indigofera species, which are widely grown for fodder, soil enrichment, and medicinal purposes.

Host crops. The primary targets of this pest are leguminous plants (Fabaceae), specifically those within the Indigofera genus. The insect population relies heavily on the presence of these legumes, making the cultivation of such crops particularly vulnerable in regions where this beetle is endemic or introduced.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Bruchidius indigoferae is closely tied to the host plant's development. Female beetles deposit eggs on the surface of developing seed pods. Upon hatching, the larvae burrow directly into the seeds, where they feed throughout their larval stage. The entire metamorphosis process, including pupation, is completed inside the seed, with the adult beetle emerging by boring a characteristic hole.

Damage and economic impact. The larval activity inside the seed is highly destructive, as the larvae consume the embryo and the endosperm. This results in a drastic reduction in seed quality, weight, and viability. Heavy infestations often render seed stocks useless for agricultural planting and significantly reduce the commercial value of the harvested crop.
