The host range of this insect primarily includes seeds that serve as the main nutrient source for its larval stage. Once the adult female deposits eggs on the seed coat, the developing larvae penetrate the protective exterior, feeding internally on the seed's embryo and endosperm. This behavior makes early detection extremely difficult, often resulting in severe losses during storage.

The life cycle of Caryoborus chiriquensis follows a complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larval stage is the most destructive phase, as the organism remains concealed within the seed for an extended duration.
