Systematic position: Ceroplastes ceriferus is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Coccidae. It is a highly specialized scale insect known for its protective waxy secretions that render it resilient against various environmental conditions and traditional control measures.

Host plants: This pest is a polyphagous insect that infests a vast range of woody plants. It is particularly notorious for damaging citrus orchards, tea plantations, coffee crops, and various tropical ornamentals, frequently causing significant economic losses in nursery and landscape industries.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Ceroplastes ceriferus consists of an egg stage followed by three larval instars, commonly known as crawlers, which are the most mobile and vulnerable stages. Adult females remain stationary, developing a thick, white-to-pinkish waxy covering that functions as a structural defense mechanism throughout their reproductive period.

Damage and economic impact: The pest extracts sap directly from the host plant's vascular tissue. The significant damage is twofold: nutritional depletion of the plant and the excretion of copious amounts of honeydew. This sugary substance serves as a substrate for sooty mold growth, which inhibits photosynthesis and significantly reduces plant vitality and aesthetic value.
