Systematic position: The Sika deer (Cervus nippon) belongs to the order Artiodactyla and the family Cervidae. As a large herbivorous mammal, it becomes a significant agricultural pest when local populations grow dense, frequently causing destruction to farmlands, forest nurseries, and orchards.

Crops damaged: These animals cause substantial losses to cereal crops (wheat, oats), maize, soybeans, and various vegetable crops. They pose a critical threat to young fruit tree saplings in nurseries and forest plantations, where they feed on bark, buds, and young shoots, often leading to tree mortality or permanent structural deformity.

Biology and life cycle: Sika deer are active year-round and do not hibernate. Their foraging behavior is most intensive during the spring and autumn months. Due to their high mobility and ability to travel across varied terrains, managing their impact on agricultural landscapes requires consistent monitoring and a proactive approach.

Damage and harmfulness: The damage is primarily characterized by mechanical destruction: deer consume green forage, trample crops, and strip bark from trunks.
