Cheyletus aversor is a member of the family Cheyletidae, belonging to the order Trombidiformes. These mites are primarily recognized as predators within the acarofauna. They inhabit various substrates, including soil, leaf litter, and grain storage facilities, where they act as natural enemies to other smaller mites and soft-bodied arthropods.

The biology of this species is characterized by a high degree of adaptability. As a predator, it utilizes specialized palps to grasp its prey. The life cycle stages—egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult—progress rapidly in favorable conditions of high humidity and moderate temperatures, which are often found in poorly ventilated grain silos.

While Cheyletus aversor does not directly damage growing crops in the field, it is categorized as a nuisance pest in post-harvest agricultural settings. Its presence in high numbers within stored grain or flour is indicative of an infestation of other storage pests. Consequently, the mite's activity contributes to the overall degradation of stored food quality through physical contamination and the transmission of fungal pathogens.

The impact on agricultural products involves the contamination of grain with mite excreta and cadavers, which alters the organoleptic properties of the grain. Although they provide a service by consuming grain-damaging mites, the density at which they occur in stored commodities often necessitates management to maintain regulatory and sanitary standards for food safety.
