The host range for this species includes various hardwood trees. They are particularly drawn to trees that are already suffering from environmental stress, such as drought, poor soil conditions, or mechanical injury. By targeting compromised trees, these beetles act as secondary pests that accelerate the death of already weakened forest and garden specimens.
The life cycle begins when adult beetles lay eggs on the bark surface. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the tree, constructing winding galleries. These galleries disrupt the flow of water and nutrients throughout the tree's vascular system.
