Lace bug

The lace bug Corythucha pura belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Tingidae. These insects are easily recognized by the intricate, lacy, and semi-transparent structures on their pronotum and wings. They are significant pests that primarily feed on the sap of ornamental trees and shrubs, often causing aesthetic and physiological damage to plants.

This species is known to infest various plants, particularly those in the legume family. The distribution of Corythucha pura is largely dependent on the availability of its specific hosts, making it a recurring concern for nursery owners and landscapers who manage susceptible plant species in warmer climates.

The life cycle of the lace bug consists of eggs, several nymphal instars, and adults. Eggs are typically laid on the underside of leaves. The presence of dark, sticky fecal spots on the underside of the leaves is a diagnostic feature that helps identify an active infestation.
