The species is primarily associated with the family Poaceae. It is a notorious pest for corn (maize), sorghum, and millet. Additionally, it frequently infests turfgrass in lawns and golf courses, making it a versatile pest that impacts both industrial agriculture and amenity landscaping.

Biology and life cycle
The life cycle typically consists of complete metamorphosis. Adults are nocturnal moths, often identified by their characteristic snout-like palpi.
